47%

I have been trying to figure out what to post about the Mitt Romney 47% video debacle.  Plenty of people — Democrats and Republican alike — are writing the campaign’s obituary.  Count me among the folks who thinks that’s way premature.  I don’t think Romney is running a very good campaign, the polls and the fundamentals favor Obama, and time is running out, but make no mistake, if Obama sticks his foot in his mouth tomorrow, no one will remember the 47%.

That said, it is difficult to know how to handle the video release without piling on, and I think, for now, I’ll just hand over the mic to Stephen Colbert.  He’s much funnier than I am.

Let me also recommend that you read Ezra Klein on who, exactly, the 47% are and where they live (hint — mostly in Republican-voting states.)

Should probably add this too, by David Brooks, conservative columnist for the New York Times.  Well worth reading for explanation of why Romney struggles.
